TURNER — Summer is here, Turner Public Library is open, an this year’s Summer Reading Program — “Imagine Your Story” — is under way. The program will begin by utilizing the traditional paper log and registration, available in a free Summer Reading gift bag. Later this summer, TPL will launch an online and app-based program via Beanstack, a nation-wide program encouraging reading year around with challenges, easy electronic logging, achievement badges, and tickets toward prizes.
Challenges include “1000 books before Kindergarten” and “100 books to read before College.”
Beanstack can be used by every member of the family, including adults. All readers who begin the summer with the paper logs and registration forms can return those to the library and library staff will set up Beanstack accounts and enter the first reading logs for them. Summer Reading Program information gift bags can be obtained at the library during service hours.
For adult readers engaging in this summer reading, TPL will again be part of the state-wide ReadME program. This year’s books were selected by Maine author Lily King. The titles are “Vigilance of Stars” by Patricia O’Donnell, and “Roughhouse Friday” by Jaed Coffin. TPL expects to have the books available soon but welcomes reservations. Discussion dates will be announced later this summer.
Of special note for fourth through 8th grade readers, Maine State Award books are at the library. All 40 of the MSBA titles are available for those who want a head start on the reading, and the library has the slips students can turn in to their school librarian this fall.
For families and businesses wanting to support MSAD 52 students reading the MSBA titles, the library is offering a special customized Maine Student Book Awards bookplate with your name, message or company name. Each bookplate is $12.50 per book and will remain in the book for the life of the book. Email info@turnerpubliclibrary.org or call 207-225-2030 to reserve your bookplate.
