Migration walks on Cobbossee Stream begin May 9

GARDINER — An astounding 56 species of birds (19 different warblers!) and thousands of alewives were seen last year on Harrison Avenue Nature Trail. As a result, it became a 2019 Kennebec birding hotspot and the go to place to observe river herring on Cobbossee Stream.
On Saturday mornings in May the Augusta Bird Club, Maine master naturalists and Upstreamwsill host free walks highlighting the beauty and the multitude of species that thrive on our gem of a stream on walks open to the public.
Bring binoculars and park at the New Mills Dam parking lot on Route 126/Cobbossee Avenue for the one-mile hike.
The schedule:
May 9 – 7 a.m. bird explore and 10 a.m. nature hike
May 16 – 7 a.m. bird explore
May 23 – 7 a.m. bird explore and 10 a.m. nature hike
May 30 – 7 a.m. bird explore
Augusta Bird Club will also lead weekday bird walks on Harrison Avenue Nature Trail during the month of May. Please check their website augustabirds.org/wp/ for dates and times.
