The Sebago Lakes Region Chamber of Commerce reminds you to be socially responsible during this time of constant change and unrest. Buy only what you need, check on family, friends and neighbors to ask how you can be of assistance to them and get your COVID 19 information from the appropriate news sources, such as the CDC at www.CDC.gov or www.211maine.org.
It is also important to remember your local businesses. These are your friends and neighbors who give to local youth sports teams, fundraisers and events every year. We need to ensure they are around for many years to come. Listed below are some suggestions for supporting your local business community:
• Take advantage of online ordering, delivery, curbside pick-up, take-out and drive-throughs. Many local businesses are offering alternatives to onsite shopping and dining.
• Gift Cards – Buy gift cards to local stores and restaurants. Save the cards for future use or give them away as gifts to friends and neighbors. Some businesses are offering deals for buying gift cards now.
• Memberships & Subscriptions – Many small businesses and non-profits rely on memberships and subscriptions to help keep their doors open. The continued support you give can literally save a business.
• Reach Out – If you know the owner or employee of a business, send an email or give them a call. They will likely have ideas that are specific to their business type for how you can best support them.
At the end of the day, we want everyone to be safe and healthy. Continue to wash your hands and practice social distancing. We need to, however, balance that with a viable economy. Using the suggestions above will hopefully help keep our local business community thriving.
