Maine Maple Sunday Weekend is still on, events are up to participating sugar houses

AUGUSTA — Maine Maple Sunday, scheduled for the weekend of March 21 and 22, is still on as planned and events are up to the discretion of participating sugar houses.
The Maine Maple Producers Association is not going to be taking a stand on whether a producer should or should not cancel their Maine Maple Sunday Weekend eventsm said President Scott Dunn. The MMPA is not a regulating body. It is an organization that promotes its members and Maine maple syrup, and will continue to provide guidance to the producers, Dunn said.
Maine Maple Producers are spread widely across the state and mostly host open air events. Producers value the health and safety of their customers, products, staff and volunteers that participate in Maine Maple Sunday events. Check the Maine Maple Producers website or contact individual producers before visiting any operation. The association asks that those who choose to attend an event should practice proper hand sanitation and good overall hygiene practices.

The Department of Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry is encouraging Maine Maple Producers Association members participating, however, to be mindful of U.S. and Maine CDC recommendations about large gatherings and social distancing to minimize the potential for exposure.
