BRUNSWICK — The Dirty Cello Duo will bring their high-energy fusion of blues, rock and bluegrass to the Unitarian Universalist Church of Brunswick at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, April 4, as part of the Concerts for a Cause, which raises money for local charities. Two-thirds of the proceeds from the concert with benefit Tedford Housing, which provides housing and services for the homeless) and Oasis Free Clinics, which provides free medical and dental services for those who are uninsured and can’t afford insurance. From China to Italy, and all over the U.S., Dirty Cello brings the world a high energy and unique spin on cello playing. Based in San Francisco, the Dirty Cello Duo is made up of Rebecca Roudman on cello/vocals/fiddle and Jason Eckl on guitar. Roudman is a classical string player by day and rocks out with Dirty Cello by night and has used her improvisation skills to rock out with the likes of Carlos Santana, Isaac Hayes and hip hop bands like Deltron 3030.
She tackles the band’s varied repertoire with a rock ‘n’ roll sensibility. The band plays every style imaginable and does some fantastic covers, including classics like “Purple Haze.”
