New name, same mission — Edgewater Financial to become Barnard Financial

Coinciding with the new year 2020, Edgewater Financial is changing its name to Barnard Financial. Maggie and Jeremy Barnard, owners and founders of the company, began their financial advisory practice as Edgewater Financial five years ago as a nod to their appreciation for Maine and its coast, but they have decided to make a change.
“It was just time. The name served us well in the early years of our growth, but it has become increasingly evident that we are Barnard Financial. People know and trust Jeremy as their advisor; they know our name as part of their community,” said Maggie Barnard, co-founder and CEO of Barnard Financial. “Jeremy is their trusted advisor, and we are a family-owned business. Our name needed to be in the title to communicate that.”
The name change has come amidst a new ‘Women, Money and Freedom,’ initiative the company is beginning this year to encourage financial literacy and empowerment in a new generation of Maine women. This initiative is in addition to the multiple sponsorship commitments they are making in the arts, and a greater investment in their local community.
Jeremy Barnard is an independent fiduciary financial advisor specializing in retirement income planning; he believes this change also better reflects his approach toward individualized financial plans for his clients.
“We will miss the old name, but change is inevitable, and we feel like this is the right direction for us and our clients,” he added.
Barnard Financial will continue to serve clients throughout Maine, with offices in Brunswick and Lisbon Falls.
