SKOWHEGAN — Skowhegan Savings has announced that John Butera and Steve Gray have joined the bank as vice presidents of commercial lending. They will work to assist the bank’s customers with their business banking needs.
Butera has more than 30 years of experience in economic and business development. He has served as the commissioner of the Maine Department of Labor and worked as the senior economic advisor for the LePage administration. Before that, he was the executive director of the Central Maine Growth Council.
“We are excited to have John join our commercial lending team in central Maine,” said Steve Thomas, senior vice president and senior commercial lender at Skowhegan Savings Bank. “John has played a key role in facilitating business development and expansion throughout the state by leveraging years of experience with government incentive programs, advocating for businesses in Augusta and introducing business owners to new markets. John is looking forward to providing banking solutions for new and existing commercial customers based out of our office in Fairfield.”
Gray comes to the bank with 38 years of customer service experience in the banking, insurance and auto industries. He was co-owner of Franklin Chrysler in Farmington and has held positions in banking in business development, commercial and mortgage lending. He’s also been licensed in insurance.
“Stephen is a fantastic addition to our Western Maine team,” said Thomas. “Stephen has a warm following, earned from years of trusted service in the auto industry and previous experience in community banking – he never seems to meet a stranger. Stephen will be providing commercial banking solutions from our main office in Skowhegan.”
He attended Thomas College for business management and accounting and is a trustee and finance committee member of the Pierce House in Farmington. He lives in Farmington with his wife where they own and operate a blueberry farm called Grayberry Farm.
