Student, sparked by Farmington/Wilton job, earns Cornell certificate

Emily Kessel, who began her hospitality career whilel working as a guest service agent at the Comfort Inn & Suites of Farmington/Wilton, has earned a Hospitality Management Certificate from Cornell University in Ithaca, N.Y., through their e-Cornell Program.

Kessel, a Camden native, works for Bay View Collection, a group of boutique hotels in Camden. After graduating from Camden Hills Regional High School, she attended the University of Maine at Farmington, where she planned to get a teaching tregge, but fell in love with the hospitality experience, and decided to be trained on every department to learn the ins and outs of the hotel industry.
She is now working towards a bachelors degree in Hotel & Lodging Management at Johnson & Wales University in Rhode Island while continuing to work full-time in Camden. She received the HMC from Cornell from the Ivy League university’s online certificate program.
“We are very proud of Emily’s hospitality pursuits and ambitions,” said Matthew Levin, director of Hotels for the Bay View Collection. “It is obvious that helping others has always been a passion of hers and we are excited that she has devoted her schooling and career path towards this endeavor while at the same time applying her great customer service talents towards our guests.”
