NORWAY — Each year, Norway Savings Bank employees participate in a Wellness Challenge in an effort to encourage healthy eating, exercise and other positive behaviors. This year’s challenge revolved around improving daily exercise habits with 94% of employees participating. The prize for the top two teams and individuals was a donation of $250 and $100 respectively to the non-profit of their choice.
The non-profits receiving donations were:
Travis Mills Foundation ($250) – The Travis Mills Foundation benefits and assists post-9/11 veterans who have been injured in active duty or as a result of their service to the nation. Veterans and their families are invited for an all-expenses paid vacation to Maine to participate in adaptive activities, bond with other veteran families and enjoy much-needed rest and relaxation in Maine’s great outdoors.
Ronald McDonald House Charities of Maine ($250) – Ronald McDonald House is a place for families to call home when they have a child undergoing treatment at one of Portland’s hospitals.
Maine Children’s Cancer Center ($100) – Using world-class diagnostic and treatment tools, Maine Children’s Cancer Center provides a wide range of services to kids with cancer and blood diseases and their families.
The Center, Kennebunk ($100) – The Center is a meeting place for adults 50 and older to explore their interests through engaging programs, social connection, and to make a difference through volunteer opportunities that strengthen the community.
“We believe in healthy competition,” said Richelle Wallace, Senior Vice President and Senior Resources Officer at Norway Savings Bank. “This year’s six-week wellness challenge encouraged teams and individuals to increase exercise and form more healthy behaviors. With 94% of the employee base participating, we were able to impact the exercise habits of 252 people. Being able to donate $700 to these worthy organizations was the icing on the cake!”
