Free career, budgeting workshops offered in Farmington, Mexico

AUGUSTA — New Ventures Maine is offering a variety of free workshops on budgeting, self-employment and more in Farmington and Mexico during October.

“My Money Works,” a five-week class, will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. Wednesdays, Oct. 2 to 30, at 367 Wilton Road, Farmington. This class is for adults of all ages, and helps participants gain skills to stretch money, pay bills reduce debt, find money for savings and set personal financial goals.
“My Next Career Move,” a free five-week course, will be held from 2:15 to 3:30 p.m. Thursdays, Oct. 3 to 31, at Franklin County Adult Education 129 Seamon Road, Suite A., Farmington.
The course will help participants navigate the job market, strengthen their resume and more. It’s open to people of all ages and income and stages of employment.
“Intro to Self-Employment, a one-session workshop, will be held from 6 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 8, at Region 9 Adult Education, 377 River Road, Mexico. The course will help participants decide if self-employment is the right choice, covering the pros and cons of owning your own business, the steps needed for start-up, the major elements of a business plan and resources available.

“First Impressions Matter,” will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday Oct. 15, at the Region 9 Adult Education, 377 River Road, Mexico. The workshop will offer current tools, resources, and guidance to write an effective resume and to prepare for a successful interview.
“Budgeting Basics” will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 22, at Region 9 Adult Education, 377 River Road, Mexico. Participants will learn about basic components of building a budget, including money tracking, goal setting, challenges, ways to reduce expenses and how understanding an financial situation can be helpful in creating a budget that works.
“Clean-up Your Credit,” will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 29, at Region 9 Adult Education, 377 River Road, Mexico. The workshop will cover how to reduce debt, improve credit, and maintain a good credit score, as well as create a step-by-step plan to pay down your debt.
