Topsham Historical Society discusses Pejepscot Proprietors Sept. 10

TOPSHAM — The Topsham Historical Society will discuss “The Pejepscot Proprietors: Good Guys or Bad Guys?” at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 10, at Topsham Public Library, 25 Foreside Road.
The presentation os by Jym St. Pierre, conservationist, editor and amateur historian. It is free and open to the public.
Three centuries ago, the Pejepscot Proprietors, a company of Massachusetts speculators and members of the Boston social and political elite, acquired extensive land holdings in and around Topsham. Their business model was to make money by selling lots to settlers. They were used to getting their way, whether by investment, persuasion, political manipulation, marriage, legal challenge or brute force. They were devoted to God, king, country, and self, not necessarily in that order.
