AUGUSTA — Kennebec Savings Bank recently hired 12 students representing colleges from Maine and beyond as part of its annual internship program. The long-standing program aims to provide students with valuable, hands-on work experience to enhance their business skills and be better prepared for the workforce.
The internship program, which began in 1996, has seen more than 100 participants and was the beginning of a career at Kennebec Savings Bank for roughly a dozen out of the current 135 employees. “The internship program is an integral part of our culture at Kennebec Savings Bank,” said President and CEO Andrew Silsby.
“Opportunities to apply what they are learning in the classroom to real-world business settings will help them be more successful in their future careers. It’s one way we can do our part in preparing tomorrow’s business leaders and showing them first-hand the job opportunities and pathways that exist right here in Maine.”
Interns are positioned in various departments throughout the bank and provided with opportunities to work in multiple areas to broaden their skill set.
Interns hired for Summer 2019 include:
Katherine Walker, a senior at Husson University studying marketing communications, and Justin Freeman, a junior at the University of Maine at Orono majoring in accounting, working on a project involving residential loans.
Hunter Hoague, a sophomore at the University of Maine at Augusta majoring in dental hygiene, working in the Loan Servicing Department.
Nickolas Sanborn, a senior at Merrimack College majoring in finance, working in the Accounting and Deposit Operations Department.
Henry Parent, a junior at Susquehanna University studying finance, working in the Loan Processing Department.
Anna Peterson, a junior at the University of Maine at Orono studying marketing, working in the Marketing Department.
William Paradis, a rising first-year student at Husson University planning to major in business administration, and Julia Nadeau, a junior at Thomas College studying finance, working as tellers in the Waterville Branch.
Alyssa Charette, a senior at Saint Joseph’s College studying biology and secondary education, and Chandler Moran, a sophomore at Thomas College studying accounting, working as tellers at the Farmingdale Branch.
Margaret Brock, a sophomore at the University of Maine at Orono majoring in accounting, and Lauren Murray, a rising first-year student at Northeastern University, working as tellers at the Augusta Branch.
Returning interns include Jordhan Levine, a senior at Husson University majoring in business management, has returned for his third summer working in the IT Department, and Melanie Calicchio, a senior at the University of New England majoring in English and political science, has returned for her third summer and is working on a project involving residential loans.
The internships will run through the rest of the summer until students return to their respective institutions in the early fall. “It’s only been a few weeks, and I’ve already been involved in several projects that have helped me develop new skills and gain a better understanding of what I want to do when I graduate,” said current Marketing Department intern Anna Peterson. “I look forward to applying what I have learned from my experience here at KSB when I return to campus.”
