‘Mainers on the Titanic’ Gray Public Library topic May 2

GRAY — Maine author Mac Smith will speak about his book, “Mainers on the Titanic,” 6:30 p.m. Thursday, May 2, at the Gray Public Library, 5 Hancock St.

Smith traces the stories of passengers on that fateful ship who had ties to Maine. Their tales are retold, along with the sinking-related events in the state at that time. Meticulously researched, this book reveals the agonizing day-to-day wait of Mainers for news of what really happened to their loved ones and tells the stories of Maine passengers from their boarding to the sinking, rescue, and arrival back in the country; for those who did not survive, it recounts their final coming ashore in Halifax, Nova Scotia.
Smith is a Navy veteran of the First Gulf War and former news reporter for the Bar Harbor Times.
The event is free and open to the public. Books will be available to for purchase and signing, and light refreshments will be served.
