Modern homesteading topic of Gardiner book talk March 25

GARDINER — Writer and farmer Kirsten Lie-Nielsen, author of “So You Want to Be a Modern Homesteader: All The Dirt on Living the Good Life” will talk 6 p.m. Monday, March 25, at Gardiner High School, 40 West Hill Road.

Lie-Nielsen will discuss some of the potential pitfalls and things to consider before “going rural.” She will include what kind of animals to consider, how to keep your homestead warm, and just how much to take on during the first year of homesteading.
This introduction should help future farmers understand the realities of rural living and will be full of stories of farm adventures. Lie-Nielsen lives in Liberty, where she keeps geese, goats, chickens, bees and ducks as well as tending her gardens. Books will be available for purchase and signing.
