Cribbage, children’s author on tap at Turner Public Library in March

TURNER — Kevin Hawkes, the popular author and illustrator of numerous books, and a new twice-monthly cribbage gathering are both scheduled for Turner Public Library in March.
Both programs are free and open to the public.

Hawkes’ children’s books including “The Wicked Big Toddlah,” and “Dogosaurus Rex,” and he will present a program at 10 a.m., Saturday, March 30.
Hawkes, of Gorham, has more than 50 books in print, including the New York Times best seller “Library Lion.” His presentation will address the development of characters and how to draw them. He will also read from his works and discuss what inspires him. This program is geared for students in elementary and middle schools, but all ages are welcome.
Novices and experts alike are invited to play cribbage in a new twice-a-month program. Those who wish to learn the rules and strategies of cribbage are encouraged to join, and new players are always welcome. In March, the cribbage meetup will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Tuesday, March 19; in April it will be 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday, April 6, and 4 to 6 p.m. Tuesday, April 20.
