NORWAY — Cancer patients are feeling the healing work of Bonnie VanDurme, who provides reflexology to patients as part of the Caring Coupon Survivorship Program at the Cancer Resource Center of Western Maine.
VanDurme. a certified reflexologist and Reiki II practitioner, is jiust one of the practitioners taking part in the program for patients undergoing treatment for cancer, and up to six months after completion, as well as their caregiver. They may receive coupons to redeem for massage, Reiki, reflexology or therapeutic massage sessions through the program. All wellness providers who participate have been through a pre-approval process and are reimbursed for their time.
VanDurme said her goal is to bring those she treats to a complete sense of homeostasis or “balance from head to toe,” while working on their hands, feet or face. She said it brings her as much peace as this client testimonial boasts: “Bonnie is a delight to work with as she is very professional and has a true passion for her work. I believe that the reflexology sessions have improved my everyday life.”
The Cancer Resource Center of Western Maine is at 199 Main St., in the Stephens Memorial Hospital Specialty Clinic building. The center is open from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. every Thursday and Friday. It offers a variety of programs and resources, including wigs and comfort items; all free to anyone affected by cancer.
