SKOWHEGAN — The Skowhegan boys and girls basketball teams have participated in several matchups as part of the 2018-2019 hoop season. Both the boys and girls varsity teams are off to good starts.
Boys varsity action:
Mt. Blue held off Skowhegan 57-54 in varsity action. Marcus Christopher scored 22 points and 10 rebounds. Matush Prokop added 10 points and 11 rebounds to lead Skowhegan, Chase Carey had four points and five boards. Carter Hunt had four points and three assists; Kyle Kruse also added four points to the stat sheet.
Boys junior varsity action: Skowhegan High School’s junior varsity won its season opener 49-38 over Mt.Blue. Christian Weed scored 13 points, pulled down 10 rebounds, and had two steals. Jacob Steeves added 11 points and an assist. Levi Obert chipped in eight points, seven boards, four assists and three steals.
The Skowhegan freshman defeated Mt.Blue 53-24. Dennis Neal scored 15 points, had six rebounds and seven steals. Payson Washburn and Joey Godin each chipped in nine points apiece and Drayke Belanger added eight to lead the freshmen to a convincing 53-24 victory over Mt.Blue.

* Skowhegan 47-40 over Nokomis 40 — Marcus Christopher scored 25 points, had 10 boards, two assists and two steals with a blocked shot. * Freshman defeat Erskine 61-54 — Drayke Belanger scored 21 points, snatched nine rebounds and added four steals. Dennis Neal dropped in 18 points and nabbed six rebounds.
* Varsity defeats Erskine 51-37 — Jimmy Reed led the way with 17 points, including two 3-point shots. * Varsity bows to Hampden Academy, 62-44 — Marcus Christopher scored 15 points, and Matush Prokop added 10 points with five rebounds.
* Hampden JV squad edges Skowhegan 49-43 — Levi Obert scored 13 points, grabbed seven boards and had multiple assists. Marcus Hampton added 9 points on three treys.
* Skowhegan freshman beat Hampden 61- 43 — Drayke Belanger scored 19 points and grabbed five rebounds; Joey Godin scored 12 points with six rebounds. * Varsity falls to Maine Central Institute 54-47 — Marcus Christopher scored 29 points and nine rebounds.
Girls hoop action:
Skowhegan over Mt. Blue, 53-28 — Annie Cooke scored 17 points, had 12 rebounds, two assists and three steals in the season opener. Sydney Ames scored 14 points, had four boards, two assists and four steals. Jaycie Christopher chipped in 11 points and four rebounds. Alyssa Everett added six points, seven boards, five assists and two steals. Sydney Reed had 4 boards, two assists and a steal.
Skowhegan JVs dominate Nokomis 44-12 — Logan Wing scored eight points and had four rebounds and two steals. Riley Fitzpatrick dropped in seven points, three boards and two assists. Ashley Pelletier scored six points, as the Emma Smith chipped in 6 points, and 10 rebounds for the

* Skowhegan 59-27 over Erskine — Jaycie Christopher scored 13 points, had six boards and three assists. Alyssa Everett added 12 points.
* Skowhegan 55, MCI 22 — In varsity action, Annie Cooke scored 22 points, had five rebounds, three assists and four steals. Jaycie Christopher scored 10.
* JV squad falls to MCI 39-11 — Emma Smith scored four points and had eight rebounds.
