RANDOLPH — The United Methodist Clothes Closet, sponsored by the Randolph United Methodist Church, is looking for volunteers, clothing donations, as well as customers who want to clothe their family at a low cost.
The United Methodist Clothes Closet has adult and children’s clothes, clean and like new, available for a dollar or two per garment. Even name-brand winter coats are priced around $5. Everyone who works at the Clothes Closet is a volunteer, and every dollar spent there goes to such local charities such as food banks, homeless shelters and the Boys and Girls Club.
The Clothes Closet has been in business now for 14 years at the same location in the basement of the Knights of Columbus building, Spring Street, in Gardiner. In winter it is open from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursdays and Saturdays, and in summer, Tuesdays are added. Volunteers do not have to be members of the the Randolph United Methodist Church — everyone is welcome.
The Clothes Closet is a great place to save money when your children outgrow their school clothes, because you know they will probably outgrow any new clothes before they have worn out the old ones,organizers point out. “We get tons of donations, some things with price tags still attached. All our clothes are cleaned and pressed before being tagged and hung by size and type.” Families with low incomes can qualify for vouchers that permit each family member to pick a selection of clothing once a month at no cost.
Donations of clothing are always welcome.
