WATERVILLE — The University of Maine Cooperative Extension will host a dairy forage meeting focused on growing corn silage in a changing climate from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 18, at Governor’s Restaurant, 376 Main St.
Corn silage makes up a significant amount of many cow’s diets in Maine and is grown on about 25,000 acres or more.
This conference will focus on management techniques, variety selection and environmental stewardship to help producers grow healthier, and more digestible crops for their cows.
Topics that will be discussed include, nitrogen management, the results of the 2018 corn silage variety trials, interseeding techniques and no-till production. In addition, Lauchlin Titus from “Ag Matters” will present a retrospective of corn silage production from his 30 years or more of providing technical assistance to farmers throughout the state.
The meeting will begin with registration at 9:30. Lunch will be provided. Both Certified Crop Advisor credits will be requested as well as Maine pesticide recertification credits. Registration is $20 per person.
