Brunswick photographer Snapp will speak at First Light Camera Club

TOPSHAM — Brunswick photographer Craig Snapp will present a slide talk for First Light Camera Club from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 29.
Snapp’s talk, “Capturing Images Up, Wide and Far: My Eclectic Photography Adventures with Stars, Panoramas and Custom Google Maps,” will be held at the Brunswick Naval Museum, 179 Admiral Fitch Ave., Brunswick Landing.

It is free to FLCC members and $10 for guests.
Snapp will share experiences photographing the Milky Way and photos he took in Wyoming capturing the August 2017 total solar eclipse. In “looking wide,” he will offer an overview of his skills for taking, printing and selling landscape panoramas. He’ll finish by “looking far” with a demonstration of how to integrate photos into custom Google Maps and capture 3D photo spheres compatible with Google Street View.
Snapp retired in 2000 after 30y years as an R&D manager in Silicon Valley. Since then, he’s been an active volunteer for several land conservation nonprofit groups, providing digital mapping and photography support along with board membership and public-access preserve stewardship.
He migrated to Maine with his wife, Barbara, in 2003, initially specializing in digitally stitched panoramas for the promotion of Downeast Coastal Conservancy projects in Washington County. He has long had a strong love of nature as well as of advancing technology. Moving to Maine allowed him to focus his photographic hobby on Maine’s striking landscapes with its wonderful natural variations of sky, weather, seasons and tides.
Several of his photos have received recognition and awards at annual juried shows, such as Topsham Library’s “Joy of the Lens” and the Boothbay Regional Art Foundation’s “Maine Photography Show.” He is inspired to keep creating and capturing new and fun images by his membership both with First Light Camera Club and with Points of View Artists of Maine.
A selection of his photos can be viewed on his POV webpage at: povartistsmaine.com/artists/craig-p-snapp In addition to his photography hobby, Snapp has taught short courses, given presentations and tutored on the topic of “Google Earth and Maps” at the Midcoast Senior College, People Plus and the Curtis Memorial Library. He encourages folks to use these free, powerful and fun tools to explore their world and to create their own custom maps with embedded photos.
First Light Camera Club hosts tech nights, field trips, and guest speakers from September through May, and always welcomes new members or visitors who wish to attend one or two meetings.
Upcoming guest speakers include “An Evening with Landscape Photographer Ben Williamson,” Thursday, Dec. 6; “Introduction to Macro Photography,” with Matt Stapleton, Jan. 10; and “Shooting for Post Processing,” with Joe Reardon, Feb. 7.
