Community Credit Union donates to St. Mary’s Food Pantry, Safe Voices

Oct. 282018

LEWISTON – Recently Community Credit Union presented the St. Mary’s Food Pantry with a check in the amount of $500. St. Mary’s Food Pantry provides food for more than 1,000 people per week. In addition, St. Mary’s Nutrition Center supported more than 130 households with urban gardens located throughout the cities. The pantry is on Bates Street in Lewiston.

“Our work would be half as impactful if not for the collaboration and support of dedicated and engaged partners like Community Credit Union. We are so grateful for their commitment to programs that help build a more just, equitable and resilient community. We are looking forward to another great season of good food and growing together,” said Program Development Coordinator, Sherie Blumenthal.
Community Credit Union participates in the Maine Credit Union League’s Maine Credit Unions’ Campaign for Ending Hunger. Maine Credit Unions have raised more than $8 million since 1990 to help end hunger in Maine. At the end of each year, 100 percent of the money raised by each individual participating credit union is given back to that credit union to be distributed to hunger organization in their community. In 2017, participating Maine Credit Unions raised a new record total of more than $740,000 for the Ending Hunger Campaign.
The credit union has made several similar donations this year. Among them was one, on June 8, to Safe Voices, also for $500. The money will help supply the organization’s food pantry available at its shelter. Safe Voices offers support for those affected by domestic violence with offices in Farmington, Lewiston, South Paris/Norway and Rumford. The local offices provide one-on-one support, support groups, children’s services, advocacy, information, referrals, court advocacy, transportation and accommodation for shelter, community education and professional training.
Community Credit Union has locations at 144 Pine St.; 40 Stanley St., Auburn, and 1025 Auburn Road, Turner. For more information, visit www.communitycreditunion.com.
