LISBON — When Lisbon Family Dental Care first opened its doors more than three years ago, there was one thing Dr. Jenna Pulkka focused.
“We wanted to be modern,” she explained. “We wanted to bring technology and innovation to Lisbon.”
Lisbon Family Dental Care, or LFDC as it’s affectionately known, first opened its doors in April 2015 and has experienced rapid growth. Pulkka has added two hygienists, one assistant and a member of the front office since opening.
She has built her practice on a simple motto — something she instills in all new team members. “At LFDC, we pride ourselves on the patient experience,” Pulkka added. “Each member of our team understands that, from the moment they walk in the front door, the patient is the most important part of our practice.”
This commitment to the patient experience is evident throughout many of the perks LFDC offers. Each operatory is equipped with a heated massaging chair. The patient can choose which preset massage program is best for them by using a handheld remote the hygienist provides.
To help with anxiety and boredom, there are televisions mounted overhead, with everything from cable TV, to Netflix to YouTube available. If television isn’t for you, there are also noise cancelling headphones with Pandora and Spotify available. Every effort is made to make the patient as comfortable as possible.
What really drives Pulkka is introducing new technology to her patients. LFDC recently acquired a CEREC machine, which allows for the convenience of same day dentistry. This drastically reduces the amount of time the patient spends in the chair, while simultaneously eliminating needless follow up appointments.
“I am really excited to share this technology with my patients. I love being able to seat someone in my chair and know that in a few short hours they’re walking out the front door with a new crown.” The old process involved two separate appointments over a three to six week timeframe. Not only does the CEREC machine eliminate those additional appointments, it also makes the need for a temporary crown unnecessary.
“When I started this practice, it was important for me to stay on the cutting edge of dental technology,” Pulkka stated. “The addition of the CEREC machine is just one more way we are bringing the future of dental care to Lisbon.”
Technology is not the only way LFDC gives back to the community. Since opening, the practice has gone out of its way to be a strong and supportive member of the community. Every year they participate in “Dentistry With a Heart,” which provides free dental care to people without insurance. LFDC is also a proud sponsor of the “Concerts In The Park” series, the “Mother Son Dance” at the MTM center, and the “Sleigh Ride at Christmas” down Main Street.
“We are very grateful for the support that the community has shown us since we opened our doors,” Pulkka explains. “It’s very important to me that we show our appreciation, both in our investment in technology and our commitment to the community.”
Lisbon Family Dental Care is located in the Subway Plaza at 568 Lisbon Road and is now accepting new patients. Pulkka is a Durham native and graduate of Brunswick High School.
