WATERVILLE — According to data collected and analyzed by Center for Financial Services Innovation, one in three employees report financial issues as a distraction at work, 46 percent spend three or more hours dealing with personal finances in the workplace and sixty-four percent of millennials are stressed about their finances.
Workplace distractions could have several negative impacts beyond a decrease in workplace productivity; it could cause a strain on family relationships and resources.
Because there is a substantial need for more financial education, New Dimensions Federal Credit Union has developed “Eat, Learn and Prosper,” a free program that can be held at local businesses during a convenient lunch break. During the session, attendees will have the opportunity to learn about a specific topic of interest to them.
Topics can include creating effective household budgets and paying down debt, understanding credit and avoiding pitfalls, how to best navigate the car buying process, what you need to know about mortgages and home equities, or other financial topics. NDFCU will even provide lunch for all attendees.
The free education program has been running for nearly a year and has seen great successes. NDFCU’s director of financial education, Tanya Verzoni, states “Many people never had the opportunity to adequately learn how to budget money, or what factors improve a credit score or car buying best practices. Sometimes people just take a risk and hope for the best; that approach could be a costly mistake. I really enjoy my job and helping others understand difficult financial topics. Hopefully, the sessions help them sleep better at night, too.”
