NORWAY — During the month of September, Norway Memorial Library is joining libraries across the United States to celebrate the freedom to read in honor of Banned Books Week, Sept. 23 to 29.
Banned Books Week is annually designated by the American Library Association to recognize books that have been challenged or banned in the United States and around the world. This year’s theme is “Banning Books Silences Stories. Speak Out!”
Displayed and available for check out are some books that have been challenged or banned. Along with the display is a contest to match titles of banned books with their famous first lines.
Those who would like to participate may fill out an entry form available at the library to be entered into a drawing for a book lover’s prize package of a coffee mug, library card socks, and a set of library coasters. All entry forms are due by 5 p.m. Monday, Oct. 1.
