SKOWHEGAN — The Skowhegan Area Chamber of Commerce is seeking the public’s input to identify businesses and leaders changing the area’s economy and making a significant impact on our community for an awards ceremony in several categories.
The award descriptions for nominees:
* Alton W. Whittemore Award — “In honor of Alton W. Whittemore, for 40 years of support and dedication to the Skowhegan Area Chamber of Commerce and more than 60 years of service to the people of the Skowhegan area, we of the Skowhegan Area Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors hereby proclaim and declare that henceforth the “Alton W. Whittemore Award” shall be awarded to those most worthy to bear the name and having displayed similar service to the Skowhegan Area Chamber of Commerce.”
* Large Business of the Year — More than 25 employees must be a chamber member, Community Service-minded, progressive and visible in the community, positive environment for employees.
* Small Business of the Year — Fewer than 25 employees, must be a chamber member, must have been in business for three years, outstanding service and product quality, community minded, and visible to the community.
* Volunteer of the Year — Represents the community in the best possible way, positive attitude, and specific contribution during the year.
* Community Impact Award — Represents the Community in the best possible way, positive attitude, and specific contribution during the year. Does not have to have chamber membership, and can be a business or organization.
* Educational Leader of the Year — Must work within our coverage area, demonstrating a positive attitude and making a significant impact on the lives of children and youth.
Those submitting nominations must provide a minimum of 100 words describing why this person deserves the award, and the more information the better.
