LEWISTON — Woodlands Senior Living held a First Responder Appreciation event honoring local first responders on Aug. 15 at the organization’s Lewiston location, Woodlands Memory Care of Lewiston.
Law enforcement and first responders including police, fire department, sheriff’s department, EMTs and their families were invited to the free event, which included a barbeque dinner, live music and giveaways.
Residents and Woodlands Senior Living staff mingled with attendees and their families at the first annual event.
“This event began three years ago when residents and staff at our Waterville community were inspired to honor local law enforcement,” said Woodlands Senior Living COO, Matthew Walters. “The following year, we extended the invitation to all first responders and the event has just continued to grow. This annual event gives us an opportunity to say thank you to the men and women who work to protect our communities every day.”
Woodlands staff provided a full barbeque dinner, dessert, live music and entertainment for all attending law enforcement, first responders and their families. To-go boxes were given to on-duty officers who were in the area but unable to stay.
It is the first year that Woodlands Memory Care of Lewiston has hosted the event. The Maine-based, family-owned organization has hosted similar events at its Hallowell, Brewer and Waterville locations. This is the first year in Hallowell, the second in Brewer the third in Waterville. Both staff and residents participate in the event honoring all those that protect and serve, the company said. Founded in 1980, Woodlands Senior Living is a Maine-based, family-owned and operated organization providing trusted assisted living and memory care to Maine’s seniors, while offering relief and assurance to the people who love them. The organization operates 12 communities in eight locations throughout Maine.
