Spurwink adds physician with specialty in child abuse pediatrics

PORTLAND — Spurwink Services, a nationally accredited nonprofit organization offering a broad range of mental health, education, and residential services, recently announced Amanda Brownell, M.D., has joined the Spurwink Child Abuse Program team.

Brownell is a child abuse pediatrician, having completed her pediatric residency at Maine Medical Center in 2015. She also completed a three-year fellowship in child abuse pediatrics at the Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center in Cincinnati, Ohio.
“We are honored to have Dr. Brownell join our team,” said Spurwink president and CEO Eric Meyer. “Spurwink’s CAP program is an integral part of what we do here at Spurwink, and what we provide for the Maine community. Protecting children from abuse and promoting safe and happy families is at the core of the program, and Dr. Brownell’s experience and expertise will no doubt support this philosophy.”
The Spurwink Child Abuse Program was developed in 1994 in response to the need for expert diagnostic services for children who may have been abused. The program serves children throughout Maine with clinics in Portland, Bangor, Lewiston and Waterville.
