WATERVILLE — “Ebb + Flow: Reflections on the Kennebec River.” will open Wednesday, Aug. 1 and run through Saturday, Sept. 8 at Common Street Arts, 93 Main St.
The exhibition is in partnership with the Waterville Area Art Society, Harlow Gallery, Common Street Arts and Wesserunsett Arts Council.
Members of the organizations were invited to participate in the exhibition by submitting works relating to the Kennebec River and the vital role it has played for centuries throughout its communities.
The opening reception will be held 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 2, at Common Street Arts.
The exhibition explores the Kennebec River as a natural resource that has served as a defining feature of the towns and cities surrounding it.
The river waterway has sustained communities for generations through its role in supporting Maine’s transportation, logging, forestry, textile and paper industries as well as its more leisurely role in providing and sustaining recreational pursuits including boating, fishing and swimming. The exhibition will reflect the significance of the Kennebec River and its importance as a unique natural feature that has shaped the history of the central Maine region.
