Hall-Dale celebrates first baseball crown in 17 years

By Bill Van Tassel

STANDISH — The Hall Dale Bulldogs baseball team won its first championship in 17 years with a 2-1 victory over Houlton High School June 17 at St. Joseph College.

It was a pitchers’ duel between Bulldog senior Cole Lockhart and the Shiretowners’ Nick Perfitt, who struck out five batters and walked none with a total of just 77 pitches.

Lockhart had 54 strikes in a similar number of pitches (79) to homeplate and allowed only three hits. He was helped along by great fielding from his infielders, who backed him up once he got his game going in the second inning.

Lockhart did not allow any hits after the third inning. Hitting for the Bulldogs were Logan Dupont, Alec Byron and Akira Warren, who smacked a double. Hall Dale finished the season at 19-1.
