Topsham Lamarre VFW Post 2197 has busy couple days of giving

TOPSHAM — The Rev. Joseph Lamarre Memorial Post 2197 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars had a busy two days on May 30 and 31.
On May 30, post members delivered $530 in food and grocery gift cards to Veterans Inc. in Lewiston. The donation was partially funded by a $250 grant from VFW national headquarters. Veterans Inc. is a VA-approved non-profit dedicated to assisting homeless veterans successfully re-integrate into society. Its programs provide supportive services, employment and training help, and assistance finding affordable housing.
The staff reports that over the past four years they have worked with around 200 Maine veterans with a 90 percent success rate.

Post 2197 explores many avenues of fundraising to support programs like Veterans Inc. It also donates to community projects such as Mid Coast Hunger Prevention Program, Tedford Housing, Topsham Youth Sports Leagues, Girl Scouts of Maine and others.
On May 31, the Topsham Fair McDonald’s presented the Post a check for $127 to be used in the post’s charitable endeavors. The Topsham McDonald’s held an event on May 10 for Post 2197. From 5 to 7 p.m., a percentage of all proceeds were set aside to be donated to the post. Additionally, the post was allowed to hold a recruiting event for new members at the restaurant. Post 2197 wishes to express its sincere appreciation to the Topsham Fair McDonald’s.
VFW Post 2197 is a non-profit organization dedicated to helping fellow veterans and veterans’ programs as well as the local community. The post actively seeks new membership of those who have served in areas of conflict.
