GARDINER — School Administrative District 11 is offering an “adventure by land and sea exploring the legends and lore of lighthouses” in the Boothbay Harbor area Saturday, June 2.
The deadline to sign up is Tuesday, May 15.
The excursion will begin at Pier 8 aboard the passenger vessel Novelty. The one-hour cruise through inshore waters will take visitors by Ram Island Light, Cuckolds Lighthouse, Pemaquid Point Lighthouse, Monhegan Light and Seguin Island Light.
Novelty will make landfall on historic Burnt Island to explore Burnt Island Light, built in 1821 and still in operation. The group will have exclusive access to the island as a qualified Red Cloak tour guide takes visitors back in time, exploring the historically restored facilities on the island, including the keeper’s residence and the lighthouse.
A portion of the registration fee goes toward the restoration of the original lighthouse tower, which will be 200 years old in 2021.
