SOUTH PARIS — The Board of Directors for the Oxford Hills Chamber of Commerce has announced the 2018 Award Winners for Business of the Year, Rising Star of the Year, Employee of the Year and the Community Service award.
Nominations were submitted by business and community members as well as board members, said John Williams, executive director of the Oxford Hills Chamber. The board reviewed nominations and voted on them at the Jan. 16 board meeting.
The Business of the Year is Flanders Electric of Norway. Leslie Flanders, the company’s former owner, nominated the business and said, “Heath (Poland) purchased Flanders Electric from me about 11 years ago. Since that time, he has more than tripled the gross sales, has become one of Maine’s largest Generac generator dealers and is the largest electrical contractor in Oxford County.”
The Rising Star of the Year is Tilton’s Market of Buckfield. Sandra Fickett, a former school teacher, took over the business in 2014 and has increased the number of staff working at the market as well as the products offered. Tilton’s Market is known for its butcher shop, featuring hand-cut to order meats. The market also carries an assortment of grocery items and baked goods, including homemade whoopie pies.
The Employee of the Year is Katie Letourneau of Norway Savings Bank. Letourneau manages the indirect lending at Norway Savings Bank and according to her colleague Michael Grass, she is always there for her colleagues, her company and her customers. Grass also noted that Letourneau has increased business in her department more than 52% and has taken time to mentor another lender. She also serves on several committees in the bank and is also a board member with the Norway Downtown organization.
The Community Service award winners are Amanda and Aaron Ouellette, owners of Daddy O’s Diner in Oxford. The Ouellettes regularly host monthly community dinners at their restaurant as well as a free Thanksgiving dinner each year. Over the years, the Thanksgiving dinner has grown from serving nine turkeys to more than 35 turkeys. Donations are welcome and given back to the community. Last year’s dinner donations went to the town’s heating assistance program.
The award winners will be recognized at the Chamber’s annual dinner in March. Additional details about the dinner will be available in the next two weeks. Please contact the Chamber or visit oxfordhillsmaine.com for more information.
