Jay’s Subway, the only one in Maine with a drive-thru, is a unique experience

JAY — How does Jay end up having the only Subway drive-thru in Maine? And why?

It all starts with owners Diane and Moe Poulin, who wanted a drive-thru for their unique Subway to help better serve the type of customer they get, particularly since their menu is not that of a typical Subway.

“The drive-thru made perfect sense,” said Moe Poulin. “Particularly since the expanded menu caters to the early morning commuting crowd. Now there is a regular stream of people who pull up at 5 a.m. and get the freshest breakfast sandwiches around without getting out of the car.”

The town’s Subway has New England Coffee, with an extensive list of flavors ranging from Gingerbread to Blueberry, Cinnamon and Almond, and offers cold brew and iced brew as well as hot coffee. Breakfast is all day long, so anyone driving up or dining in between 5 a.m. when it opens and 9 p.m. when it closes, can order their favorite breakfast item or try a freshly baked cinnamon roll, blueberry muffin, croissants or biscuit.

Many customers are also taking advantage of Subway’s mobile app, ordering with their smart phone and picking up their order at the drive-thru.

But not all of Subway’s customers in this town of 4,581 zip through the drive-thru. Many enjoy its newly remodeled expanded dining room, which seats 29 and features a fireplace and two big-screen TVs, where customers will almost always find the big game being shown.

So whether it’s breakfast all day, a quick trip through the drive-thru, or a place to relax, have a great meal and watch the game, Jay’s Subway is a unique Maine experience.
