Gardiner Scouts were among the area Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, Venturers and Explorers who took part in Memorial Day events to honor members of the armed forces who died while serving. The Scouts joined veterans in placing flags at the graves of service members killed in action, took part in community wreath-laying ceremonies and marched in parades on May 29 to honor those who died. A news release from the Scouts noted that Theodore Roosevelt, a strong supporter of scouting, once said, “It is a good thing for all Americans, and it is an especially good thing for young Americans, to remember the men who have given their lives in war and peace to the service of their fellow countrymen.”
