BATH – The new year brings new children’s programs at Patten Free Library, as well as the 19th session of the town history series.
New Head of Children’s Services Mary Randall, who began at the library in December, urges everyone to stop by and say hello if they haven’t already. She previously worked at Merrill Memorial Library in Yarmouth, and Lewiston Public Library. She has a background in theater and music and is the current co-chair of the Maine Reading Round-Up Committee.
Weekly children’s programs include Babytime, 10:15 a.m. Monday, beginning Jan. 23; Lego Club, 3:30 p.m. Wednesday; All-Ages Storytime, 10:15 a.m. Friday.
Additional upcoming programs include World Read Aloud Day, Take Your Child to the Library Day, and March Madness: Book/Book Character edition. In addition, the Maine 3 Railers will be back with their model trains during February spring break, which begins Monday, Feb. 20.
The Town History Series begins Saturday, Jan. 28. It is a long-standing tradition that brings together member communities to learn about and celebrate each town’s local history, and is a partnership with the town of Arrowsic, and historical societies from Bath, Georgetown, West Bath and Woolwich.
All programs are at 10:30 a.m., and will be presented in person, live on Zoom, and recorded and streamed on Bath Community Television (BCTV).

Saturday, Jan. 18: West Bath, “Sabino: An Historic Overview,” with Jay E. Paris Jr.
Saturday, Feb. 4: Bath, “Oak Grove Cemetery: A History,” with Stories,” with Joe Minott
Saturday, Feb. 11: Georgetown, “Tide Mills of Georgetown,” with Harry Hopcroft
Saturday, Feb. 18: Woolwich, “Good Health, Good Morals, and Training: Summer camps in Woolwich,” with Allison Hepler.
This year’s Town History Series is dedicated to Sheila Spear, who died Oct. 17. Spear volunteered for the History Room, indexing obituaries for the Memory database, and was also the first town administrator of Arrowsic, retiring last year. She presented last year’s Arrowsic program.
