BRUNSWICK – Wilcox Wellness & Fitness hosted their 12th annual Burpees for Turkeys Saturday, Dec. 3, raising $13,086 for Good Shepherd Food Bank and its fight to end food insecurity across Maine.
The event is held across Wilcox’s two locations in Brunswick and Bangor, with more than $78,000 raised since the start of the event, in 2015. Wilcox Wellness & Fitness, Brunswick, opened in 2019 and hosted its fourth annual event this year, raising $6,440.
Fundraising occurs across the Wilcox Community with members doling out some “payback” to their trainers with every $5 donation, requiring the trainer team to do one burpee, which is a squat-thrust with a full stand between each one.
This year, the Brunswick trainer team completed 1,288 burpees in the name of food insecurity and says they’re already looking forward to next year.
Donations also came from local businesses. This year Crooker Construction & RE Management, the gym’s landlords, donated $500 each towards the cause, and Bath Savings Bank and The Brunswick Healthcare Center at Martin’s Point donated another $100 each. Hannaford Supermarkets provided fruit and cheese platters for community members to enjoy as they watched proof of their burpees being completed.
