Sebago Lakes Chamber raises $25,000 for food pantries

WINDHAM — The Sebago Lakes Region Chamber of Commerce ended its annual Feed the Need campaign in May after a successful year, raising more than $25,000 through fundraisers and individual donations.
The money is raised for distribution to the 11 food pantries in the eight towns the chamber supports – Casco, Gray, Naples, New Gloucester, Sebago, Standish, Raymond and Windham.
The 2022 Polar Dip held in February (as part of the Sebago Lake Rotary Club’s Ice Fishing Derby), at which many brave people plunged into a 32-degree Sebago Lake was the biggest fundraiser, bring in over $11,000 in pledges.
“This past year was a phenomenal year,” said SLRCC Executive Director/CEO Robin Mullins. “The community stepped up in a big way. To be at over $25,000 in donations for our local food pantries is absolutely amazing.”
The SLRCC also held its 22nd Annual Golf Open on June 22 at Poland Spring Resort. The open fully funds the chamber’s Professional Development and High School Scholarship programs. Some 30 teams competed, and prizes were awarded to the top gross team, Windham Economic Development Corp., and net team Northstar Mortgage.
The SLRCC awarded two high school scholarships this year. The first to Abby Bouchard, of Gray High School, who will study Medical Laboratory Science and the second to Rebecca Caron, of Lake Region High School, who will attend Maine Maritime Academy.
