Cobbossee Cleanup is April 23 in Gardiner

Apr. 162022

GARDINER — The Cobbossee Watershed Cleanup will begin at 8 a.m. Saturday, April 23, hosted by Upstream, Gardiner Main Street, Friends of Cobbossee Watershed, Gardiner Boys and Girls Club, Gardiner Rotary, Kennebec Valley Trout Unlimited, Kennebec Land Trust and many other civic groups.
The effort is in celebration of Earth Day and Day of Caring, and volunteers may help clean up litter and trash in the 10 area communities that are home to the 290-square-mile watershed.
Volunteers may meet at 8 a.m. on the Bridge Street bridge or at the Gardiner Boys and Girls Club, 14 Pray St., for supplies and clean-up locations along Cobbossee Stream. Be sure to take photos and post them, tagging #Cleanupthecob. Groups can also pick a time and cleanup slot beforehand, registering online.
All participants are invited to celebrate afterwards at a BBQ at Gardiner’s Boys and Girls Club, between 11 a.m. and noon.
Organizers said that just an hour or two picking makes all the difference — last year 31 volunteers removed nearly 700 pounds of trash from the sream. “We are hoping for much more this year. Working together we can make our streams, lakes and rivers sparkle keeping our rivers, lakes, streams and oceans healthy,” organizers said.
