BRUNSWICK — A discussion of Abraham Lincoln’s second inaugural Address will be the topic at the Joshua Chamberlain Civil War Roundtable, 7 p.m. Thursday, March 10, in the Morrell Room, Curtis Library, 23 Pleasant St.
The program is free and open to the public.
The address on March 4, 1865, was roughly 700 words and six minutes long, and was savagely attacked by Democrats at the time, but has come to be regarded by many as Lincoln’s greatest speech. Drawing on his book, “Every Drop of Blood,” author Edward Achorn will discuss the speech in the context of the time and others who figured in that history, including Walt Whitman, Frederick Douglass and John Wilkes Booth.
