AUGUSTA — Teachers from Rangeley, Fairfield, Lewiston, Oakland and Hiram are among the 2017 County Teachers of the Year announced by the Maine Department of Education and the nonprofit group Educate Maine on May 11.
Eight semifinalists will be chosen from the 16 county recipients, and from that field, the Teacher of the Year will be named later this year.
County teachers of the year, announced in a ceremony at the State House, included Androscoggin County recipient Nesrene Griffin, of Governor James Longley School in Lewiston; Franklin County recipient Allison Warman, of Rangeley Lakes School; Somerset County recipient Eric Brown, of Lawrence High School, Fairfield; Kennebec County recipient Lisette Bordes, of Messalonskee High School in Oakland; and Oxford County recipient Janet Harriman, of Sacopee Valley High School in Hiram.
Other recipients were Aroostook County, Leslie Marquis, Fort Kent Community School; Cumberland County, Brooke Teller, Casco Bay High School; Hancock County, Marielle Edgecomb; The Peninsula School; Knox County, Iris Eichenlaub, Camden Hills Regional High School; Lincoln County, Christopher Coleman, Great Salt Bay Community School; Penobscot County, Kasie Giallombardo, Nokomis High School, Newport; Piscataquis County, Kaitlin Young, SoDoMoCha Elementary School, Dover-Foxcroft; Sagadahoc County, John Dever, Mt. Ararat High School, Bath; Waldo County Christi Goosman, Searsport District High School; Washington County, Rhonda Stevens, Beatrice Rafferty School, Perry; York County, Jen England, Noble High School, North Berwick.
