Hallowell backpack program benefit raises more than $1,300

HALLOWELL — Cox Memorial United Methodist Church in July raised more than $1,300 in a yard and bake sale to help support the Hall-Dale Elementary School backpack program.
The sale always is held during Hallowell Days, and even though the annual celebration was canceled agaib this year, the church continued its tradition.
The aim of the backpack food program is to close the gap in meals for children between Friday lunch and Monday breakfast by providing food for children over breaks during the school year, such as weekends and longer holidays.
