SOUTH PORTLAND — Nine Maine community college students, including from Waterville and Turner, were recently awarded full tuition scholarships in honor of Leon A. Gorman for the upcoming 2021-22 academic year.
The scholarship supports three students at Southern Maine Community College, the largest college within the Maine Community College System, and one each at the other six community colleges. Each of the nine Leon A. Gorman Scholars receives an award equal to a full year of tuition at a Maine community college.
Among the scholarship winners are:
Daryn Gilbert, of Waterville, who is majoring in Respiratory Therapy at Kennebec Valley Community College, in Fairfield.
Shelby Varney, of Turner, who is majoring in Veterinary Technology at York County Community College, Wells.
The students were celebrated Tuesday, May 18, in an online event with Gorman family members and L.L.Bean leadership.
