AUGUSTA – Connected Credit Union recently teamed up up with students in the Jobs for Maine Graduate sprogram at Cony High School to help them with their first project of the year: feeding their community.
“Connected Credit Union has been involved with the JMG program for several years now,” said Wendy Brochu, marketing director at Connected CU. “We share the common belief that investing in the future of these young adults will set them on a path to success based on the fundamental skills they learn in the program.”
As part of their food drive, the students had a goal to collect 1,000 boxes of cereal, a popular item at the Augusta Food Bank. Connected CU served as a cereal drop-off location for the effort. Within two weeks, the JMG students surpassed their goal and collected a total of 1,333 boxes of cereal.
Because small acts of kindness can create a domino effect, the JMG students had a unique plan to demonstrate the power of philanthropy. Students lined their collected cereal boxes in a domino formation in the school’s auditorium. One student pushed the first box, creating a symbolic chain reaction meant to inspire other students to help those in need in their community.
“We are proud to support their efforts and we look forward to our continued partnership,” Brochu said.
