WINTHROP -The Bailey Library in Winthrop will virtually host international bestselling author Tess Gerritsen at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 24. The event is the third part of a yearlong series celebrating Maine women that will run through this year.

Gerritsen’s novels, featuring detective Jane Rizzoli and medical examiner Maura Isles, inspired the TNT television series “Rizzoli & Isles.” She has won both the Nero Wolfe Award for excellence in the mystery genre, and the Rita Award – the highest award of distinction in romance fiction.
A graduate of Stanford University, Gerritsen went to medical school at the University of California, San Francisco. While on maternity leave from her work as a physician, she began to write fiction. In 1987, her first novel was published. She also wrote a screenplay, “Adrift,” which aired as a CBS movie starring Kate Jackson. She is also a filmmaker. She and her son Josh have just completed production of a feature-length documentary.
Retired from medicine, she writes full time, and lives in Camden.
