TOPSHAM — Topsham Public Library has announced its events for the coming weeks, including activities and events for kids, teens, families and adults.
Some of what’s planned includes:
Attention Teens! How did they do? Book to movie comparison from April 1 to 19. Check out one of the book/movie combo packs found in the basket in the teen room. Read the book and watch the movie, then fill out the short comparison bookmark. Return the bookmark to the library for one raffle ticket. The more combo packs you check out and bookmarks you complete, the greater your chance of winning. The lucky winner will receive a $50 gift card. The winning name will be drawn on April 20. For ages 11 to 18 only.
Tween Reads, 5 p.m. Wednesday, April 1. For sixth and seventh graders. Discuss great books and eat pizza. Registration is required so we know how much pizza to buy. For more information or to register call 207-725-1727 or email cyndi@topshamlibrary.org. This month’s choice is “I Am Number Four,” by Pittacus Lore. Books will be provided.
Writing Fiction Class, 6 p.m. Wednesday, April 1, 8, 15, 22 and 29. Candace Guerette, 2019’s Joy of the Pen fiction winner is instructor, using “Writing Fiction: A Guide to Narrative Craft,” by Janet Burroway. Learn about “showing not telling,” plot, characterization, point of view, and more, Suitable for absolute beginners or those who want to hone their craft. Participants are asked to read the prologue and first chapter of the book before the first meeting. Copies of the book will be available to borrow. Registration is required and limited to 10 people.
Genealogy Drop-In, 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. Thursday, April 2. Learn how to use library resources, such as Ancestry, to find out more about your family tree. Bring along a notebook and a USB flash drive (if you have one). This program runs monthly on the first Thursday.
Friends of the Topsham Public Library Annual Meeting, 6:30 p.m. Thursday, April 2. Adult Services Librarian Emma J. Gibbon, will read from and speak about her new book, “Dark Blood Comes from the Feet,” a collectin of short fiction. All Friends meetings are open to the public.
Events also including knitting and crocheting group Sip ‘n Stitch, book discussions for a variety of interests and ages, storytimes, kids drop-in activities, family movies, Bif Truck Day and more.
