State hearing on new hemp growing rules is Jan. 7

AUGUSTA — The Department of Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry Hemp Program is proposing new rules that establish the requirements for becoming licensed to grow hemp indoors and outdoors in Maine.
They outline the application and licensing process, the fees involved and the procedures for monitoring the growth of hemp. They also include the potential penalties for violation of the rules.
There will be a public hearing regarding the proposed rules from 1 to 4 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 7, in Room 101 of the Deering Building at 90 Blossom Lane. Written comments regarding these proposed rules may be submitted to the DACF Hemp Program until midnight Jan. 20 by emailing gary.fish@maine.gov or mailing to: Gary Fish, State Horticulturist, Maine Department of Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry, 28 State House Station, Augusta, ME 04333-0028.
