BRUNSWICK — Two colonels, Abel Streight of Indiana and Benjamin Grierson, a former music instructor from Illinois, commanded two cavalry raids that played an extraordinary role in Gen. Ulysses Grant’s Vicksburg victory.
Their story is the topic of Kerck Kelsy, guest speaker at the Joshua Chamberlain Civil War Roundtable at 7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 12, at Curtis Memorial Library, 7PM in the Morrell Room, 23 Pleasant Street, Brunswick.
Kelsey has spent most of his adult and professional life among books; learning from them at Princeton and Harvard, for more than 20 years selling school books for Houghton Mifflin Company, and eventually writing three books about the Washburn family of Maine and other Washburn related published articles. He also has lectured about this remarkable family around the country.
The lecture is free and open to the public.
