Lisbon students hear about post-graduate workforce training opportunities

LISBON — Students and instructors at the Lisbon School Department’s Gartley Street Program learned about training programs available after graduation in a presentation hosted by Western Maine Community Action Wednesday, Sept. 25.
Monica Millhime, a regional employer assistant point for WMCA, visited the school to share an overview and schedules of the training programs available to students. Funding is available through the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act for those who meet the eligibility guidelines. WMCA supports workforce projects in Androscoggin, Franklin, Oxford, Kennebec and Somerset counties.
Students were introduced to opportunities available in sectors ranging from health care, construction, welding, manufacturing, commercial truck driving, culinary and education. Training is provided through a variety of methods including classroom skills, work experience and on-the-job training.
“There are many training options available to students after high school,” said Patti Saarinen, WIOA program coordinator WMCA, Central and Western Maine CareerCenters. “Our job is to assist people in finding the best fit and starting them on a career path.”
