Artists sought for Welcoming City mural project

Mar. 222017

HALLOWELL — The Welcoming City murals project, a collaboration between Hallowell Arts and Culture Committee, Harlow Gallery, local artist Chris Cart, includes high school senior August Rudy, who is working on the project and volunteering at Harlow as part of her six-week, embedded senior project
The goal is to promote Hallowell as a Welcoming City, to provide visual interest in the downtown, to engage the community on an art project that reinforces shared values, and to ramp up an enhanced arts and culture based events season during the 2018 MDOT road reconstruction project on Water Street.

Hallowell’s Arts & Cultural Committee invites local artists, art students, schools and groups to submit ideas for murals on the theme of ‘welcoming community.” The murals will act as a visual representation of Hallowell’s recent welcoming city resolution. An anonymous donor is providing a matching grant to raise funds for artist/mentor stipends, the materials and paint for mounting the four murals, plus one large mural designed by the student and Chris Cart.

The deadline for submitting entries to hallowellarts@gmail.com is Friday, April 14.
