NORWAY – Norway Savings Bank has donated $150,000 to Hospice of Southern Maine, money that will be used to build a new Home Hospice Center in Scarborough.
The center will be the central hub for supporting, mobilizing and dispatching clinical teams that care for hundreds of hospice patients every day, according to a news release from the bank. Hospice of Southern Maine officially broke ground on the new building on June 13.
With national research showing that most people (80 percent) wish to die at home, the need for more hospice care is increasing. Hospice empowers people to have more time with family and friends, free of pain, to accomplish milestones that are part of life’s journey, the release said.
“I was pleased to learn that much of Hospice of Southern Maine’s service area overlaps our branch footprint,” said Patricia Weigel, president and CEO of Norway Savings Bank. “They help families in York and Cumberland counties, and parts of Oxford, Androscoggin, and Sagadahoc counties as well. In addition, they help anyone seeking their care, regardless of income or insurance coverage, while helping families say good bye to their loved ones with dignity and grace. This organization makes a truly positive impact all over Maine.”
Daryl Cady, CEO of Hospice of Southern Maine, said, “We depend on corporate partners like Norway Savings Bank, to help us fulfill our mission. The new Home Hospice Center will be incredible. It is truly needed in order for us to care for the growing number of people in southern Maine wanting and needing hospice, and will give the community better access to hospice, grief support, and end-of-life education.” The donation is being paid in three annual $50,000 installments.
